AGEMERA team visits site in Poland

A muography system was installed in a mine in Lubin, Poland, during AGEMERA's first field trip of 2023

The AGEMERA team has had its first on-site visit of the new year! On 11-14 January 2023, representatives from the AGEMERA consortium, including researchers from KGHM Cuprum, Muon SolutionsKGHM Polska Miedź, Lithica, and GEO3BCN (CSIC), traveled to Poland to carry out an inspection in the Lubin mine. There, they installed a muography system at a depth of about 700 metres below the terrain surface.

The two cosmic-ray muon telescopes that were installed near the selected mining field were manufactured by the Wigner Research Centre for Physics in Budapest, Hungary. They will help determine any changes in the density of the rock mass resulting from mining. The first set of muon flux data has also been collected.
